A little about Us

Really Useful Bikes has existed since 2008,It began with me, Rob Bushill, i found the Yuba Mundo talked about in a Sunday Times Q/A about carrying two kids on a bike, I called the distributer, Mark Forster the importer of the Yuba Mundo, that conversation was the start of a friendship and began Really Useful Bikes as a business. It has been quite a journey since that first conversation, Mark is still a good friend and instrumental in the growth of the business. Mark and I share a vision that has Bicycles reinstated as a wonderful form of local transport, with R.U.B making available some of the more useful (and unusual) bicycles to the UK, in this way we hoped to show people that bicycles can be comfortable, useful and ultimately very relevent to our local transport and local lives.

So 'Cargo' bikes are now a passion, comfortable non-sports bikes seem to me to be the new underground revelation, with low maintenance, practical features that we have ignored here in the UK for the last 40 years. Bicycles that can replace a car for those shorter journeys will provide you with choices and options. I drive a car but don't want to have to drive. The bicycles i sell, give you and me our freedom back.

Really Useful Bikes has made a lot of contacts over the years and we can now supply bicycles and products from all over the world. It’s not possible to stock all the bicycles that we think useful, so we have chose to work with the nicest people with the best products, Gazelle for one are one of the oldest and most forward thinking Dutch manufacturers, Paper bicycles are Scottish and unique, and our hunt for good cargo bikes goes on.

i try to back good products up with customer service that only a small business can give you, adaptable, reactive and always personal..

The things we sell range from the basic sundries to make MTB's more comfortable, to odd European kit that really works. We love hub gears, hub brakes and dynamos,items that can make ownership of a bicycle easier, nicer and cheaper long term.

The shop can upgrade your existing bike and maintain it for you. We enjoy the maintenance and repair of Old English, Pashley and Dutch bicycles. specialise in building hub gear/dyno wheels We build bikes too, and can repair aluminium frames if you have a fatal MTB failure..

Really Useful Bikes is a small business, so if you want a bicycle that is practical, beautiful and low maintenance or your current bicycle made better...i aim to be very reasonable with costs and good with old fashioned personal service. When you come to visit i can show you something fresh and can offer you options in a low key sort of way that might suit you and help you to find a bicycle that will work with you. We are 1 mile from Yate station via car free route (except for the last little bit), 2.5 miles from the Bristol/Bath cycle path (closer when route 15 is ready). But if you want a part you can't find elsewhere, call or email, we can probably get it for you.
